Student Leadership Committee

The Galvin Scholars program has a Senior Leadership Committee (SLC) which includes the subcommittees of Outreach, Media, Seminar, Graduation, Large Events, and Mentorship. The SLC aims to further foster a sense of community within the Galvin Scholars' program through the creation of social events that can facilitate the formation of these relationships. If you want to get involved, speak to someone on the SLC to learn more.

Outreach

This committee involves planning and organizing social events including seeking out vendors, working with finances, communicating with the Galvin Scholars administrative team, securing venues, etc. They also help in brainstorming potential monthly events and summarize past events.

Media

They work to maintain communication for social, educational, and recruiting events, ensuring that Galvin Scholars’ social media presence is tangible. Through their administrative responsibilities, they update Instagram with student highlights, social events, research/internship, and “takeovers” (when a student takes over the Instagram account to share their experiences.) They also keep the Galvin Scholars Google calendar up-to-date (with both Galvin and non-Galvin events).

Seminar

This committee is responsible for the execution of a Galvin Scholar Seminar. They research potential guest speakers and coordinate their visit to campus. They are responsible for working out all the logistics of having a speaker on campus including but not limited to working with the Galvin Scholars admin team. They will research flight prices, conference room availability, look up hotels, and plan meals/catering for the event.

Graduation

This committee plans the end-of-the-year events to celebrate the graduating class. This committee is only made up of juniors who brainstorm possible events to occur the week of Senior Week, when they are required to stay on campus throughout the week. They work closely with Dr. Young and the admin team to plan events.

Large Events

This committee is responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating large events like Gormal (Galvin + Formal) with the admin team. They propose themes, plan activities, and determine a menu. Plus, they work with EventSys for lights and karaoke.

Mentorship

They maintain the mentorship program, ensuring both mentors and mentees are regularly communicating with each other through check-ins, etc. They also update Mentor and Mentee pairings and keep the Mentorship forms up to date. They also brainstorm possible future events for mentor-mentee socials.
